The condition of coral reefs in the Gulf of  Tomini  who entered the territory of  the south coast Pohuwato  District, Gorontalo Province, the more damaged. Damage to coral reefs is getting worse  due to  fish bombing akitivitas. Citizens expect the police to increase  patrols  in the  area waters.

Based on the record of the Sustainable Coastal Livelihoods and Management (Susclam), non-profit organizations engaged in nature conservation areas Tomini Bay, coral reefs cover less than 50 percent in 2004. It is estimated that coral cover reefs in the territorial waters of the District Pohuwato decline this year. The reason, of blast fishing in the region is still common.

"The rise of fish bombing was a result of economic factors fishing communities. In addition, law enforcement against the perpetrators of the bombing of fish is still low," said coordinator Susclam, Rahman Dako, Monday (07/03/2011) at Gorontalo.

Rahman added that the condition of coral cover below 50 percent categorized as damaged. More severe conditions also occur in the waters south Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi. There are several locations in the waters there are coral reefs cover less than 30 percent or heavily damaged.

Member of Parliament Pohuwato Commission C, Ibrahim Hamzah said, blast fishing has been troubling local fishermen in Pohuwato. Besides killing fish seed, the bombing also resulted in the destruction of coral reefs in the waters. In fact, the coral reef into the nest of fish of various sorts.
